Judge Chris Craft of Memphis; apologist for Judicial Misfits, lifetime porker
Chris Craft (not related to Chris-Craft Boats) received his law license from the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1978 after graduating from the University of Memphis. From 1980 to 1982 he did graduate work at Memphis Theological Seminary in Law and Religion.
Beginning in 1982 through 1994, Chris was employed as an assistant prosecutor in Memphis. In 1994 then Governor Ned McWherter was unfortunately persuaded to appoint Craft as a criminal court judge in the 30th Judicial District in Memphis. This was Chris’ reward for acting as a compliant lackey for Democratic Party hacks in Memphis for many, many years.
Therefore, Chris has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for nearly thirty (30) years. This only confirms that no self-respecting law firm in the Memphis area was about to offer Chris a well paying job.
The so-called Tennessee Court of theagency has come under fire for acting as enablers for Judicial Misfits. State Sen. Mae Beavers, R-Mt. Juliet recent said “I think there’s something that just doesn’t sound right about the judiciary appointing a judiciary to oversee the judiciary.”
The Tennessee Legislature is contemplating passing legislation to revamp the makeup of this impotent and self-serving agency, which is made up primarily of judges and lawyers. This agency believes it has an absolute right to keep its findings secret. In fact, it is engaged in an ongoing operation of the old “I’ve got a Secret” TV show.
In August 2011, Judge Craft was elected as the presiding judge of the Court of the Judiciary. In a lame attempt at levity in responding to Sen. Beavers’ legislation, Judge Craft said, “It’s kind of hard for laypersons to understand the code of judicial conduct.”
This hyperbolic (BS) comment doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test. Anyone with an I.Q higher than the legal speed limit in a school zone could easily understand the mandates of the code of conduct. Clearly, Judge Chris Craft missed his calling as a standup comedian.
What Judge Craft and his fellow judges fear the most is having their conduct investigated by those who don’t have a vested interest in the outcome like follow judges and/or attorneys who practice before them.
The present system of claiming judges are the most qualified to judge judges would be analogous to arguing that the only persons qualified to sit on a jury in a criminal child molestation case would be convicted pedophiles.
Hopefully, State Sen. Beavers’ much needed legislation will pass, thereby leading to exposing Judicial Misfits and ridding the state of them in a timely manner.
