Was Gov. Rick Perry right in saying he’s offended that he could be bought for $5,000?

At the recent Republican debate held at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, Rep. Michelle Bachman questioned Gov. Perry’s conduct in issuing an executive order forcing young girls to receive a vaccination produced by Merck. Bachman suggested that Merck bought Perry’s financially rewarding executive order by contributing thousands to his campaign.

Rick laughingly responded by saying, “If you’re saying that I can be bought for $5,000, I’m offended.” Rick the Slick didn’t say his services couldn’t be bought for any price; he was just offended at the thought that he was a cheap whore who could be bought for a measly $5,000.

Much has been written about well-heeled Texans who have purchased Ricky’s services over the years. Of course the biggest purchaser was and is Bob “The Builder” Perry (no relation) who is a big time home builder. Over the years Bobby, his wife Doylene and/or his designated political action committees have spent nearly $3 million to purchase Ricky’s services, money that was clearly a wise investment.

To be fair to Ricky, Bob the Builder has invested millions since 2000 to purchase the services of Texas legislators, and statewide officeholders. The wise amounts of the investments by Bob the Builder made to purchase the State of Texas are as follows:
  1. $5,419,980 – Statewide Office Holders 2001-2011 (See Textbox 1 below)
  2. $5,972,000 – State Assembly members 2000 – 2010
  3. $1,755,000 – State Senate – 2000 – 2010
Bobby has invested at least $13.17 million to purchase the services of Texas’ elected officials. When added to amounts Bob invested in the judiciary and via other means, the amount would likely be closer to $15 million.

Bobby’s investment in Ricky as Governor has reaped him substantial financial rewards. One can only imagine how much Bobby will invest in Ricky’s run for the Republican nomination. And if Ricky wins, Bobby can be relied upon to invest millions more to assure that Ricky beats Obama.

One thing going for Bob the Builder if Ricky wins the Presidency is the fact that it won’t cost him as much to purchase the services of individual US Senators or House members as it has in Texas. In Texas, Bobby had to make huge investments to purchase the services of the following Texans:
  • $1,658,080 to Attorney General Greg Abbot – 2002 – 2011
  • $1,100,000 to Lt. Governor David Dewhurst – 2003 – 2010
  • $320,000 to Sen. Kevin Eltife of Tyler – 2003 – 2009
  • $320,000 to Rep. Larry Gonzalez of Round Rock – 2010
Most of the members of the U.S. Senate and House can be purchased for $5,000 or less. In fact, in some instances an all-paid golf outing to some exotic venue will do the trick.

I think it’s fair to assume that if Rick Perry is elected President that Bob the Builder Perry will be in a unique position to influence all branches of the Federal Government for much less than the $15 million or so he’s spent in Texas since 2000.

One thing we can be sure of is that is highly unlikely that Rick Perry can be bought for a lousy 5 grand. Of that I’m sure! Put simply, Ricky ain’t a cheap whore as are many of his counterparts are.
