Attorney Seth Carey of Rumford, ME; scamming slacker

The state of Maine provided Seth T. Carey with a law license in 2006 after he graduated from the University of Maine Law School. He also received a law license in 2005 from Massachusetts.

The Maine Board of Bar Overseers of the found Seth guilty of the following misconduct.

• Lacked core competence per testimony of 4 judges (Dumbo)
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Engaged in improper bookkeeping practices
• Displayed reckless disregard for rules governing client trust accounts
• Failed to timely provide medical records to opposing counsel
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Used evidence that he knew was false or should have known was false
• Failed to disclose criminal or fraudulent conduct of client to trial court
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Seth’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary suspension of his law license for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court punished Seth by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Seth.
