Attorney Lawrence Lynch of Iowa City; ethical ogre

The state of Iowa provided Lawrence L. Lynch with a law license in 1971 after he graduated from the University of Iowa Law School.

The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Board found Larry guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Borrowed money to prop up troubled real estate investments
  • Failed to obtain clients' written informed consent to the financial transactions or
  • Failed to advise them to retain independent counsel
  • Continued to represent them after borrowing the money
  • Borrowed $177,000 from clients without disclosing his financial situation
  • None of the principal on said loans has been repaid
  • Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest
  • Took advantage of his clients for his personal benefit
  • Client’s suffered serious economic harm as result of loans to Larry
  • Client’s not only lost $177,000 Larry didn’t repay but lost $13,000 in attorney fees attempting to collect on the unpaid loans
  • The terms of the loan were not fair or reasonable
  • The interest rates on said loans were low for the risk involved

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Larry by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. December 2017), Larry practices with Lynch, Greenleaf & Michael LLP in Iowa City, Iowa.
