Attorney William Minamyer of Loveland, OH; liar, ethical elf, loser

The Ohio Supreme Court erred when it presented William Minamyer with a license to practice law in 1979. Unfortunately, it appears that the Kentucky Supreme Court has followed suit by providing Bill the Loser with a license to practice his so-called brand of law in Kentucky.

In the recent past, Billy the Loser was charged with a variety of misconduct as a result of a complaint filed by one of his victims. After an investigation of Billy’s misconduct, the Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline found him guilty of the following:
  • Failing to inform client he did not have malpractice insurance
  • Gross incompetence for failing to timely file motions or responses on client’s behalf
  • Incompetence leading to client’s complaint being dismissed
  • Repeatedly lied to client that her case was still active after it had been dismissed
  • Guilty of engaging in fraud and deceit
The Board recommended that the Ohio Supreme Court suspend Billy the Liar’s law license for one-year; however, Billy objected on the grounds that he was basically a “mental case.”

Apparently, Billy suffered some injuries during his service in the Navy in 2001 when a helicopter he was riding in crashed. Billy received some medical care as a result of the accident and subsequently some prescription drugs to treat his claimed depression. Now, I’m not suggesting that Billy doesn’t deserve credit for serving his country. Of course he does!

In a highly unusual move, the Supreme Court re-opened Billy’s disciplinary case based on his claim that he was basically “nuts.” Of interest is the fact that the Supreme Court specifically stated in its ruling that “Although respondent [Billy] testified that he suffered form depression, he did not substantiate his testimony with any medical records or testimony from treating professionals.”

Billy’s “I’m Nuts” defense for repeatedly lying to his client and for his obvious incompetence was a complete success when presented it to the enablers and apologists sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court.

As a consequence of his egregious misconduct, the enablers sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Billy by gifting him with two-years of probation. The members of this court obviously missed their callings as standup comedians!

These “I’m a Nutcase” defenses are almost universally scoffed at (laughed at) when presented by a murderer. Put simply, criminal defenses such as (a) Jesus made me do it, (b) I heard voices, and/or (c) my Daddy or Mommy molested me when I was a child are laughed at by the courts, including the Ohio Supreme Court.

It certainly is nice to know that “Screwball” defenses in Ohio will only carry weight with the Justices of the Supreme Court if the claimant is an attorney or a Judge. Isn’t Ohio a great country?

As we speak (ca. Aug 2011), Bill the Loser continues to practice law at 9832 Farmstead Drive in Loveland, Ohio, which is about 15 miles east of Cincinnati.
