Attorney Kheng-Lee Ooi of British Columbia; scamming loser
The Law Society of British Columbia presented Kheng-Lee Ooi with a law license in 1991 after she graduated from the University of British Columbia Law School.
The Law Society found Ooi guilty of the following misconduct.
-
Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest
-
Hired by client owing $61,000 in mortgage payments, $16,668 in unpaid property taxes and $21,000 in credit card debt
-
Because client didn’t qualify for loan from trust company, a loan from a private investor was required to pay the bank on the $98,000 bank indebtedness
-
Ooi advised client about company offering $150,000 loan with a $10,000 administration fee and 10% interest per annum
-
Ooi prepared the loan documents in English even though she knew the client only spoke Chinese
-
Ooi knowingly failed to disclose to the client that the principal owner of the loan company was none other than Ooi’s husband
-
Failed to recommend that her client obtain independent legal advice re: $150,000 loan
-
Disclosed confidential information concerning the business affairs of her former client
-
Entered former client's residence without invitation
-
Engaged in conduct unbecoming a lawyer (What’s new?)
As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Law Society punished Ooi by gifting her with a complimentary 6-week suspension of her law license.
As we speak (ca. December 2017), Ooi practices with the Kheng-Lee Ooi Law Corporation at 15957 84th Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
