Attorney Terrence Butler of Beverly Hills, CA; ethical goblin

The state of California provided Terrence Leroy Butler with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from Southwestern University Law School.

The California State Bar found Terry guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to properly maintain client funds in a trust account
• Entered into a business transaction with a client without advising the client to seek independent legal counsel
• Borrowed $75,000 from client w/o putting terms of transaction in writing
• Failed to obtain client’s written consent to terms of loan

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the supporters for Attorney Misfits sitting on the State Bar Court punished Terry by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the California State Bar Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Terry.
