Attorney Maurice Steensland of Dothan, AL; potty mouth, Gadaffi Wannabee

The Alabama Supreme Court presented Maurice Steensland with a law license in 1986 after his graduation from Jones School of Law. Unfortunately for the good citizens the Dothan, Alabama area, Maurice the Loser sat as a District Court Judge from 1989 through 2010.
Maurice was forced to resign on May 7, 2010, which was fifteen (15) months into a six-year term, meaning he had nearly five years remaining on his term. Maurice the Wimp did so with the knowledge that he would likely have been removed from the bench.
By voluntarily resigning, Maurice the Loser is receiving a monthly pension of $9,292.85 for the balance of his miserable and useless life. This means Maurice will receive $115,560 a year, which is more than three times the average household income in the Dothan area. And Maurice’s victims are being made to pay him this outrageous and undeserved pension. Is Alabama a great country or what? Damn sure is sayeth Maurice the Loser!
In early 2010, the Alabama Judicial Commission filed sixty (6) charges of misconduct against Maurice for engaging in a plethora of egregious misconduct.
Maurice delighted in treating litigants who appeared in his courtroom with total contempt while he went about cheerfully violation their constitutional due process rights. His sea of victims, including court personnel and attorneys appearing before him referred to Maurice’s conduct on the bench and/or their feelings in the following terms:
  • Bullies and mocks everyone in courtroom
  • Menacing
  • Yelling like a mad man
  • A comedian
  • Makes a mockery of the judicial system
  • Conduct shocking, condescending
  • Belligerent; Jerry Springer Wannabee
One court employee told the Commission she was personally offended, nauseated, and ashamed; and experienced an immense conflict between taking some action about Steensland’s conduct and remaining employed by the court.
Beginning in November 1996, it has been a common practice for Maurice to make the following comments to defendants who asserted their constitutional right to a trial.
  • “You’ve got to be kidding me. We got to do this shit.”
  • “Don’t bullshit with me. You’re wasting my time. I don’t have time for this shit.”
  • “God damn it. Don’t come up here wasting my time if you know you did it.”
Maurice the Dufus would commonly belittle defendants by referring to them as “sorry,” “ignorant,” “stupid,” and “dumb ass.” An unreliable source indicated that Maurice was inspired to make these comments after he looked into his bathroom mirror and asked,
Maurice: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s this biggest asshole of them all?”
Mirror: “You’ve got to be kidding me! Of course it’s you Maurice!”
Maurice’s punishment for anyone who demanded a trial was to have them immediately handcuffed and/or jailed. And he pulled this crap without ever receiving any evidence that the person was guilty of anything other than the misfortune of appearing before Maurice the Asshole.
As a consequence of Maurice’s despicable conduct, the enablers on the Alabama Surpeme Court punished him by gifting him with a complimentary censure.
should have had been permanently disbarred. In not so acting, the Supreme Court proved again that Judicial/Attorney Misfits in Alabama are held to a much lower standard of conduct then we are.
As we speak (ca. June 2011) Maurice the Louse practices law with the firm of Parkman Adams & White in Dothan. The Parkman Adams & White law firm makes no mention on its web site that Maurice was previously disciplined, forced off the bench, and that the Supreme Court ordered he could never sit as a judge again. Apparently, Parkman didn’t want to limit its future “victim pool,” right?
