Trump's BS about speedy Gorsuch Supreme Court confirmation
It’s a well-known fact that Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky set out to deny any consideration of Obama’s February 2016 pick for the Supreme Court, DC Circuit Court judge Merrick Garland. In fact, Mitch stated that if Hillary won the election and the GOP was in charge of the Senate, he would hold up any Hillary nominee for the Supreme Court for the next four years and eight if necessary.
Shortly after Donald “Trumporleone” Trump was sworn in he repaid the religious right hardliners that held their nose and voted for him by nominating a right-wing religious fanatic, Judge Neil Gorsuch for a seat on the Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia.
Gorsuch was such a well-known right-wing fanatic that it was a given that he would never be able to garner the necessary 60 votes in the Senate to be confirmed. With that reality in mind, Mitch McConnell changed the rules in the Senate so that only 51 votes were needed to confirm Gorsuch.
Gorsuch was sworn in as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court on April 10, 2017. On the very next day, The Don had the temerity to claim a victory on the speedy way Gorsuch’s nomination proceeded in the Senate.
At Gorsuch’s swearing in ceremony, The Don said:
“I've always heard that the most important thing that a president of the United States does is appoint people, hopefully great people like this appointment, to the United States Supreme Court.” “And I can say, this is a great honor.”
The Don went on to laughingly say:
“And I got it done in the first 100 days.” “You think that's easy?” Here we have the Prince of Bullshit and Lies falsely claiming that it was through his efforts that the Gorsuch nomination succeeded in less than 100 days. The truth is that the sole person responsible for Gorsuch being approved by the Senate was none other than Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Is there anything that The Don won’t take credit for? How long will it be before he claims it was through his efforts that Sergio Garcia was able to win The Masters, his first major after going o for 73 over the past 18 years?
