State Sen. Juan Hinojosa of McAllen, TX; serial scofflaw

First and foremost, this isn’t the first award presented to Juan. To view prior articles dealing with Juan go the URLs listed at the end of this article.

The state of Texas presented Juan Jesus Hinojosa with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from Georgetown University Law School.

The Texas Ethics Commission found Juan guilty of the following violations of the Texas Election Laws.

  • Failed to disclose purpose of political expenditures
  • Failed to maintain records related to mileage reimbursements from political funds
  • Failed to disclose $500 of expenditures in January semiannual report
  • Failed to disclose $2,210 of expenditures in July semiannual report
  • Failed to disclose if fuel expenditures were for purchases already made or for previous purchases
  • Failed to maintain records of mileage reimbursements of $11,540 paid to himself for use of his personal vehicle
  • Failed to maintain record of the miles that he drove using his personal vehicle and for which he was reimbursed from his political funds

Subsequently, Juan acknowledged that he had failed to comply with the statutory filing requirements as set forth above.

As a direct consequence of his violations of campaign laws, the apologists for Public Official Misfits sitting the Ethics Commission punished Juan by imposing a complimentary $100 civil penalty.

As we speak (ca. March 2017), Juan practices with The Hinojosa Law Firm PC at 612 West Nolana Avenue in McAllen, Texas in addition to sitting as an active Texas State Senator.
