Judge Lawrence Thorne III of Beaumont, TX; serial scofflaw

The state of Texas presented Lawrence E. Thorne III with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from the University of Houston Law School.

The Texas Ethics Commission found Larry guilty of accepting campaign contributions that were in excess of the statutory amount allowed of $2,500 per contributor for his re-election. It should be remembered that Donnie was running unopposed in the November 2014 election

  • $15,000 contribution from unnamed law firm
  • $15,000 contribution from unnamed law firm
  • $10,000 contribution from unnamed law firm

Subsequently, Larry acknowledged that he accepted political contributions that exceeded the statutory limitations on contributions to judicial candidates.

As a direct consequence of his violations of campaign laws, the apologists for Public Official Misfits sitting on the Ethics Commission punished Larry by imposing a complimentary $3,062.50 civil penalty. He was also ordered to refund $30,625 in contributions he illegally accepted to the donors.

And lastly, how is it possible for someone who took an oath to uphold the laws of Texas to engage in such egregious misconduct? Could it be that Larry is intellectually incapable of comprehending the meaning of the campaign election laws?

As we speak (ca. May 2017), Larry continues to sit as a 317th District Court Family Judge in Beaumont, Texas.
