Attorney Fernando Cortes of San Antonio; ethical leprechaun

The state of Texas presented Fernando Cortes with a law license in 1991 after he graduated from the University of Texas Law School.

The 166th District Court of Bexar County found Fernando guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to properly prepare for client’s case
  • Failed to appear in court on client’s behalf
  • Filed client’s lawsuit after statute of limitations tolled
  • Failed to communicate with client
  • Failed to advise client he wouldn’t appear at hearing on his behalf
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Fernando!)
  • Failed to notify court he would not appear for hearing
  • Failed to return numerous client calls
  • Failed to timely file application for client to receive occupational license
  • Failed to file original petition in client’s personal injury matter

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Fernando by gifting him with a complimentary 33-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. July 2017), Fernando practices at 100 North Santa Rosa in San Antonio, Texas.
