State Sen. John Courson (R-SC): Today’s Public Official Misfit

Johnny has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past 32 years (1985-2017) during his tenure as a member of the South Carolina State Senate.

On March 17, 2017, Johnny was indicted by a State Grand Jury on charges of misconduct in office and the illegal use of campaign donations to pay for personal expenses. The criminal charges involved Johnny’s ties to veteran Republican strategist Richard Quinn. (Seanna Adcox AP)

Shortly after the indictment was handed down, South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Kevin Bryant ordered that Johnny be suspended from his seat in the State Senate.

Per the criminal indictment, Johnny illegally converted $247,829.81 in campaign funds to his personal use through a political consulting firm owned by Richard Quinn & Associates. The indictment went on to say that Quinn's group paid $132,802.95 to Courson personally. These criminal activities took place over a period of six-years according to the indictment.

All that remains now is to see how long it takes Johnny to cop a plea. Hopefully, when he does, the sentencing judge will order that he be incarcerated at the Goodman Correctional Institute in Columbia, South Carolina and assigned to Cell No. 117 where he’ll be roomed up with Clarice (real name Clarence) who is rumored to be like a really friendly type of feller.
