The U.S. State Department
Today’s “Arrogant Avarice” Award Winner
According to a recent article published by the Center for Public Integrity (http://tinyurl.com/3rm8bat), the number of limousines owned by the State Department (that’d be overseen by Hillary Clinton) is 259, which is an increase from 194 in 2008.
In a lame attempt at levity, a so-called spokesperson for the General Services Administration [GSA] attempted to justify this obscene waste of taxpayer money by saying:
Of the new limos, 98 were defined as “law enforcement,” which means they are quipped with sirens or lights, high-performance drive trains, or are used for surveillance or undercover operations.”
Who in the world would even consider using a limo for “surveillance or undercover operations?” Obviously, this spokesperson missed his/her calling as a standup comedian.
In another laughable attempt at humor, the spokesperson went on to say, “it had purchased a limited number of 7-Series BMWs for ambassadors in countries where vehicles are right-hand drive.” This hyperbolic (BS) statement doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test. According to “Consumer Guide,” cost for one 7-Series BMW is $70,000 to $137,000. This is a rather princely sum to waste on some government flunky given the state of our growing budget deficit.
At a time when the federal government is on the brink of bankruptcy and the middle and lower class cannot find meaningful employment, our unconcerned leaders find it acceptable to waste millions to provide so-called public servants with luxury rides.
Congrats to the State Department; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as practicing arrogance and avarice; you are far too humble.
