Judge John Totten of Charlotte; Dufus, ethically impotent, repeat offender

Judge John Totten sits as a District Court Judge in Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Recently the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission lodged an ethics complaint against Judge Totten for the second time in two years.

In the most recent complaint, the Commission charged Totten with suppressing a drunken driving defendant’s alcohol level so the man wouldn’t be punished as harshly as North Carolina law requires. In plain English, Judge Totten is accused of signing an order he knew was “false and misleading,” allowing the DWI defendant to avoid having an interlock device installed on his car.

In his sham (fabricated) order, Totten falsely claimed a motion to suppress the DWI evidence had been made and that the prosecutor and defense attorneys had argued their respective positions in his court before he decided to toss out the alcohol test results. The truth of the matter is that, there was no motion and no hearing held on any suppression motion, a fact well known to Johnny the Liar.

About a year earlier, Judge Totten was suspended by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Parker following complaints that he made inappropriate comments to court personnel. The Charlotte Observer was told by various sources that, Totten while in the courthouse recounted experiences at a bar and restaurant and described women’s bodies and how scantily they were dressed.

It’s likely that Ol’ Johnnie was addressing his encounter with dancers at the Paper Doll Lounge on Wilkinson Blvd. in Charlotte.

The Commission also claimed that Totten made statements to an investigator that “were intentional misrepresentations and done for the purpose of misleading the Commission and the investigation into the matter.” Put simply, Totten is a liar!

As we speak (ca. May 2011) this certified loser remains on the bench.

Now we have to see if the enablers on the Supreme Court will actually punish Totten by tossing him off the bench or whether they’ll gift him with complimentary reprimand.
