Judge Richard Stanford of Santa Ana; serial scofflaw, ethical gimp

Judge Richard Stanford has unfortunately been sitting on the bench in Orange County, California since 1985. In truth, Judge Stanford has dedicated the lion’s share of his adult life porking out at the public trough. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Anaheim/Los Angeles area was about to offer Stanford a well paying job or partnership. Can ya blame them?

In March 2011, the California Commission on Judicial Performance filed an ethics complaint against Judge Stanford. It accused Stanford of fixing traffic tickets for friends, co-workers, son-in-law, and even his minister.

Judge Stanford would illegally transfer misdemeanor traffic cases to his court so that he could fix cases involving friends, etc. He did so even though he was assigned to only hear felony matters since 2002. Below are several examples of the nine (9) traffic cases Stanford is charged with fixing.
  1. 10/08/03 – waived $356 fine for running red light vs. pastor of his church
  2. 11/30/05 – waived $141 fine for impeding traffic violation vs. longtime family friend
  3. 03/18/06 – waived $141 fine for filing to stop at stop sign vs. personal court clerk
  4. 04/27/07 – waived $258 fine for speeding vs. wife’s longtime friend
  5. 09/28/09 – waived $332 fine for speeding vs. fellow ministry volunteer
  6. 03/25/10 – waived $456 running red light fine vs. son-in-law
Judge Stanford’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defense

On April 12, 2011, Judge Stanford’s attorney Paul Meyer released a statement which stated in part:”Judge Stanford now clearly realizes that in these nine traffic infractions in the last 10 years he gave preferential treatment which violated the standards of conduct.”

It took this buffoon 10 years to realize that “fixing traffic cases” was a no-no. Obviously, Judge Stanford missed his calling as a standup comedian!

Conclusion

Given the track record of the enablers and apologists at the Judicial Commission, I suspect that they’ll punish Judge Stanford by gifting him with a complimentary admonishment.

In truth, Stanford should be tossed off the bench!
