Attorney John Shaffer of Bryan, OH; serial scofflaw

The state of Ohio presented John Stanley Shaffer with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from The Ohio State University Law School.

The Ohio Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel found Johnny guilty of the following misconduct.

• Backdated power of attorney for grandmother deemed incompetent due to a stroke
• Provided backdated power of attorney to client and instructed the client to sign (forge) his grandmother’s name on it, which the client did in his presence
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
• Counseled his client to commit forgery
• Fraudulently authenticated client’s forgery by signing as a witness to it, notarizing the fraudulent power of attorney and backdating the notary seal
• Instructed secretary to sign the forged power of attorney as a second witness
• Helped client close on grandmother’s property with forged power of attorney
• File forged power of attorney in county recorder’s office along with deed evidence sale of grandmother’s property

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

Because Ohio Attorney Misfits are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Johnny was never criminally charged for fraud or forgery.
