Supreme Court Justice Rhonda Wood of Arkansas; ethical dwarf

The state of Arkansas presented Rhonda K. Wood with a law license in 1999 after she graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law School.

In one matter, an attorney suing a Pulaski County nursing home owned by Michael Morton filed documents demanding that the Arkansas Supreme Court to review Justice Wood’s refusal to recuse herself from an appeal by Mr. Morton, a major contributor to her most recent judicial campaign.

Several weeks earlier, Rhonda denied a motion by attorney Andrew Phillips that she withdraw from hearing Morton’s appeal of the class-action status granted to a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by Mr. Phillips over the death of his mother while she was a resident at Morton’s Robinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Little Rock when she died in February 2014. Mr. Phillips’ most recent request, focused on Mr. Morton’s $40,000 contribution to Rhonda’s 2014 judicial campaign. It also refers to a conversation a political fundraiser testified he had with Rhonda about a prior negligence lawsuit involving another Morton nursing home.

Despite overwhelming evidence of Rhonda’s bias in favor of Mr. Morton and his nursing home operations, she refuses to remove herself from the case by laughingly claiming she’s not biased. It appears Rhonda missed her calling as a standup comedian.

All that remains now is to see what if anything the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Arkansas Supreme Court do in regards to ruling on Rhonda’s bias.

As we speak (ca. November 2016), Rhonda continues to sit as an Associate Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.
