Trump presidency: Bonus No. 1 – Repealing Obamacare

Now that Donald “Trumporleone” Trump will be our next President, it’s time to discuss the obvious benefits that will or should benefit all of us in one way or another when Obamacare is repealed.

It is reported that between 20 to 25 million people that were previously uninsured could purchase affordable health insurance under Obamacare. In many case, it was the first time any of these folks were ever able to purchase insurance because of their financial status.

The repeal of Obamacare will provide many Americans with the following benefits:

  • Insurers will be able to deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions
  • Insurers can cut off your dependent children at age 21 instead of 26
  • Insurers will no longer have to pay for contraceptives for female employees
  • No more maternity benefits to cover childbirth and newborn infant care
  • Allows insurers to again place lifetime dollar limits on coverage

Most if not all the folks who lose their health insurance are low to moderate income earners. Many are single mothers trying to raise a family while earning $15 an hour or much less. However, the financial savings to the so-called hard working middle class taxpayers will be as follows.

  • $774 billion (2017 to 2024) or about $97 billion per year
  • Eliminating several thousand government jobs (est. $250 million a year)

The above stated savings will allow Trump and the GOP to provide even larger tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires (aka, job creators).

Downside to repealing Obamacare

Uninsured will now seek treatment for all types of non-emergency ailments at hospital emergency rooms at costs 10 to 20 times what it would be to visit a family practitioner. Because of Medicare and Medicaid laws, the costs will be paid for by the federal government, which means the taxpayers.

The increased annual costs to the government for paying all the medical costs incurred by the 20 million or more newly uninsured would be difficult to calculate. However, the cost would clearly exceed the $97 billion annual cost of Obamacare. Put simply, the annual costs could easily approach $200 billion or more

Even with a doubling or tripling of government costs to pay medical bills for the uninsured, Trump supporters can take comfort in the fact that all those losers (wink, wink) are no longer being provided with subsidized health insurance.

And lastly, as Jethro of Biloxi, Mississippi said, “If them damn losers can’t pay for their own insurance, then they don’t deserve to receive any medical care, right Clyde?”
