Solicitor Ernest Gittens of Newfoundland, CAN; ethical gremlin

The Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador presented Ernest L. Gittens with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa Law School.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Disciplinary Committee found Ernie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act in professional manner towards opposing counsel
  • Failed to avoid conflict of interest
  • Engaged in conduct unbecoming a solicitor
  • Failed to avoid questionable conduct

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Upper Law Society Committee punished Ernie by gifting him with a complimentary 2-month suspension of his law license and a $5,000 fine.

As we speak (ca. October 2016), Ernie practices with Gittens & Associates at 500 Vanier Avenue in Labrador City, Newfoundland, Canada.
