State’s Attorney Jay Scott of Decatur, IL; ethical leprechaun

The state of Illinois provided Jay Scott with a law license in 1986 after he graduated from the University of Illinois Law School.

Jay has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past twenty-eight years (1988 to 2016). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Decatur area was about to offer Jay a good paying job.

In 2012, Jay duped the voters in the greater Macon County area into electing as the County’s State’s Attorney.

Former employees of the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office claim that were victims of harassment and were forced to do political work on behalf of Jay while employed in the Macon office. They went on to testify that they were fired under questionable circumstances.

Two affidavits were recently (late September 201) filed in the Macon County Circuit Court seeking the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Jay’s conduct. The two affidavits accuse Jay of engaging in the following conduct.

  • Electioneering within county offices
  • Using county-owned property for personal use
  • Providing a computer flash drive that contained pornographic material to a female state’s attorney employee that was then accidently shown to family members of a crime victim on a county owned computer.
  • Nominating petitions being circulated in courthouse by county employee during working hours
  • Used county-owned vehicles to pick up Hay’s children from school

Of course as is the case with government attorney’s charged with misconduct, Jay denied he was guilty of the charges. He then went on to use the worn out excuse that it was all politically motivated.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take before Jay cops a plea and admits his guilt to the charges aforementioned.

As we speak (October 2016), Jay continues to be employed as the Macon County DA.
