Attorney Lori Smith of Riverside, CA; idiot, repeat offender

The state of California presented Valerie English Turner with a law license in 1998 after she graduated from Western State University Law School in Fullerton, California.

The California State Bar Court found Lori guilty of the following misconduct.

Lori’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Failed to refund $1,126 in unearned fees (crook)
• Failed to respond to form interrogatories on client’s behalf
• Failed to turn over file to client after being terminated
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Wrote check against insufficient funds (rubber)
• Failed to perform legal services competently (moron)
• Failed to maintain client funds in client trust account
• Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Lori!)

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Lori by gifting her with a complimentary stayed 1-year suspension of her law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Bar Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Lori.

Because Attorney Misfits in California are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Lori was never criminally charged for writing a bad check.

• Failed to perform legal services competently (idiot)
• Failed to respond to discovery requests
• Failed to file required status report with bankruptcy court
• Failed to oppose adversary action filed v. client

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Bar Court punished Lori by gifting her with a complimentary 30-day suspension of her law license.
