Ohio Chief Justice Thomas Moyer steal a set of Goodyear tires
In late March 2000, Chief Justice Thomas Moyer bought a $40,000 Buick Park Avenue on the taxpayer dime.

Within ten (10) days after delivery of the Park Avenue to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer, and after driving a mere 244 miles, he ordered a set of $800 Michelin ries from Wilson's Garage in downtown Columbus.

The luxury Park Avenue provided to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer at public expense came with a set of high-quality Goodyear tires. When I first viewed the vehicle maintenance records for Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s Park Avenue and noticed the $800 purchase for Michelin tires, I immediately recognized that something was fishy.

I don’t know about your experiences over the years, but of the twenty (20) new vehicles I’ve purchased in the past, not a single one required a new set of tires after being driven a mere 244 miles. In comparison to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer, it appears that I was one lucky devil, as you likely were too, right?

After the media reported on abuses involving cars being provided to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer and the other justices, I met with the Ohio Supreme Court’s chief fiscal officer and Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s attorney Mike Close (ex-10th District Appellate Judge) at the Supreme Court. During this meeting, the following conversation about the Goodyear tires took place between Mike and me.

Dawg:   I’d like to know what happened to our [taxpayer’s] set of Goodyear tires that only had 244 miles on them when Chief Justice Thomas Moyer ordered a new set of Michelins.

Mike:    The Goodyear tires were placed in the Ohio Supreme Court’s tire storage facility so they would be available for replacement on Justice Sweeney’s Buick Park Avenue.

Dawg:   I’m sorry, they were what?

Mike:    The Goodyear tires were stored in the Court’s tire storage facility.

After being presented with this BS of an answer, I laughed out loud and then said:

Dawg:   Okay, I know what you’re talking about Mike. The Court’s tire storage facility is across the street from the Court’s battery storage facility, which is adjacent to the Court’s muffler storage facility, which is around the corner from the Court’s spark plug storage facility, right Mike?

Mike:  Dave lets move on. We can further address this matter later, okay?

Personally, I like Mike Close and enjoyed conversing with him about the abuses I discovered involving the luxury cars being provided to Chief Justice Thomas Moyer and the other justices along with matters dealing with retired judges billing for hours never worked and/or travel expenses never incurred. However, it was apparent to me that someone at the Ohio Supreme Court instructed Mike Close to feed me this line of crap as a defense to the missing Goodyear tires.

Anyone who would believe that the Ohio Supreme Court actually rented a warehouse to store tires for nine (9) vehicles that were domiciled in Toledo, Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati, Worthington and Bucyrus would not only qualify as a certified moron but would likely believe the following to be true:
  • In 1990 President George H.W. Bush nominated Jeffrey Dahmer to act as the official caterer for the Whitehouse
  • In 1999 Pope John Paul II nominated Madonna to be his chief spokesperson as to the efficacy of monogamous relationships
  • After being exposed for his misconduct involving congressional pages in 2006, ex-Florida congressman Mark Foley promised in early 2007 to “turn a new page”
It is pretty clear that the Goodyear tires from Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s Park Avenue were in fact placed on someone’s personal vehicle. I’m betting they went on Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s Volvo.

Well over a year later, Justice Francis Sweeney’s Park Avenue did require a new set of tires; however, they weren’t the Goodyear’s that came off of Chief Justice Thomas Moyer’s Park Avenue. In fact, the Court paid over $700 for a new set of tires for Justice Sweeney’s Buick.
