Attorney Stephen R. Coffey of Albany, NY; apologist for Judicial Misfits  Attorney Stephen R. Coffey was appointed to the Judicial Commission by then-State Senator Joseph Bruno, an infamous crook and long time friend of Coffey’s. In December 2009, Bruno the Crook was convicted of corruption.
Mr. Coffey is a well known and allegedly highly respected plaintiff’s attorney (aka, ambulance chaser).
On his web site, Coffey touts himself as being among the 1% of the nation’s attorneys who appear in a publication entitled The Best Lawyers in America. What’s the big deal Stephen? Since there’s over 1 million attorneys in the country that means there’s about 10,000 named as one of the “Best Lawyers in America.”
In 2005, the Judicial Commission voted to remove New York City Judge Laura Blackburne for taking affirmative action to prevent a convicted criminal from being arrested. An article dealing with Judge Blackburn’s egregious misconduct can be found at the URL below.

Despite the Commission’s ruling that said, “She [Judge Blackburne] placed herself above the law she is sworn to uphold and abused the power of her office, utilizing court personnel and court facilities to accomplish her goal of thwarting a lawful arrest,” Attorney Stephen R. Coffey dissented from the Commission’s ruling that she be removed from the bench.
In his hyperbolic (BS) dissent, Coffey had the chutzpah to say:
I wonder if Judge Blackburne reimbursed Mr. Coffey for his expense in purchasing a pair of industrial strength knee pads.
To state that Judge Blackburne was not unfit to sit on the bench or unethical doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test! Coffey argued that Blackburne should be gifted with a complimentary censure rather then removed.
What an unmitigated loser!
