Judge Jerry Baxter of Atlanta, GA; incompetent loser

The state of Georgia presented Jerry W. Baxter with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from the University of Georgia Law School.

It should be noted that Jerry has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past 42 years (1974 to 2016). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Atlanta area was about to offer Jerry a good paying job.

Georgia Ethics Laws mandate that all judges submit an annual financial disclosure statement wherein the report their income, assets and who gave them money for their political campaigns. Failure to so act provides for a mandatory fine of at least $125.00 for each violation.

When Judge Baxter was informed by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he was in violation of the mandatory reporting rules he responded by saying:

  • “I don’t think it’s OK at all. I think it’s negligence on my part to not have made those deadlines.”
  • “I don’t think I’m above the law or regulations."
  • “I just made a mistake and didn’t meet the deadline.”

Of course Jerry thinks he’s above the law. If he didn’t, then he would not have failed to comply with the law by not filing his annual financial disclosure statements.

One can only imagine how Jerry would react if a litigant appeared before him who had failed to pay a monthly fine that he personally had ordered the defendant to pay. I’m sure if the defendant said, “Hey Jerry, it was just negligence on my part, so let’s forget it, Okay?”

As we speak (ca. July 2016) Jerry continues to sit as a Cobb County Superior Court judge in Atlanta, Georgia.
