Attorney Bernard Cohen of Royal Oak, MI; slacker

The state of Michigan provided Bernard M. Cohen with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from Wayne State University Law School.

The Tri-County Hearing Panel #63 found Bernie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to seek lawful objectives of a client
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed about status of matter
  • Failed to explain matter to client to extent necessary to permit client to make informed decisions regarding the representation
  • Improperly deposited his own funds into office trust account
  • Failed to release client file upon termination
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Bernie!)

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Hearing Panel punished Bernie by gifting him with a complimentary 179-day suspension of his law license, which means his license will be reinstated in September 2016.

As we speak (ca. June 2016), Bernie will again practice with the Law Office of Bernard M. Cohen at 26862 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, Michigan, which is a suburb of Detroit after his license is reinstated.
