Attorney William McBee of Hobbs, NM; ethical leprechaun

The state of New Mexico presented William A. McBee with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from Hamline University Law School.

Billy’s misconduct took place while he was sitting as a Fifth Judicial District Court judge, which resulted in the Judicial Standards Commission finding him guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in willful misconduct in office
  • Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest
  • Remained on criminal case despite having personal relationship with defense counsel
  • Failed to respect and comply with the law (Up yours, said Billy!)
  • Failed to recuse himself when recusal was mandatory
  • Engaged in illegal ex parte (one-sided) communications

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Mexico Supreme Court punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2016) Billy practices in Hobbs, New Mexico.
