Judge Ben Brady of Maxwell, TX; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee

FYI: Judge Roy Bean was an infamous Justice of the Peace and saloon owner in Texas who called himself the "The Law West of the Pecos." Roy was also affectionately referred to as the Hanging Judge.

The state of California presented Pamela Isles with a law license in 1975 after she graduated from Western State University Law School.

The State Commission for Judicial Conduct found Benny guilty of the following misconduct.

In mid-2015, Ms. Vicki Cook was driving on a Texas highway when she passed a car shortly before turning onto the interstate. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Cook noticed that a male driver of a car behind her was rapidly flashing his headlights and “vehemently” directing her to pull over.

Being rightfully concerned for her safety because the driver wasn’t wearing a uniform and wasn’t driving a marked police care, Ms. Cook refused to pull her car over to the side of the road.

The man continued to follow her for about 7 to 9 miles. Subsequently, a marked police car pulled behind Ms. Cook and indicated that she needed to pull over, which she did by pulling into a parking lot, where she spoke with City of San Marcos Police Officer Joyce Bender.

The man following Ms. Cook also pulled into the parking lot. The officer then told Ms. Cook that Judge Brady had requested that police pull her over for reckless driving. The officer then told Ms. Cook that Judge Brady wanted to speak with her, which she agreed to do. She then realized Brady was the guy who had been following her.

During their conversation, Benny repeatedly threatened Ms. Cook with incarceration and contempt of court. The officer’s dash cam video proves that Benny threatened to “throw Ms. Cook in jail for 72 hours,” and that he said to her:

  • “If I see you again, I’m going to make sure that the country sheriff takes you to jail.”

Of course Benny had absolutely no lawful authority to follow Ms. Cook nor to threaten to jail her or find her in contempt. I for one am more than willing to proclaim that I’m contemptuous of Benny.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Benny by gifting him with a complimentary public warning.

As we speak (ca. May 2016), Benny continues to sit as a Justice of the Peace in Maxwell, Texas.
