State Sen. Bill Seitz (OH): Today’s “Humanitarian” Award Winner

Congratulations to….

State Sen. Bill Seitz (OH)

Today’s “Humanitarian” Award Winner

During the March 2016 primary vote in Ohio, a car crash caused the blockage of a major highway near Cincinnati that left thousands of voters stranded in their cars as the polls were about to close. Fortunately, a local judge who received frantic calls from voters ordered the polls to remain open one extra hour. (Alice Ollstein, Think Progress)

In a naked attempt to further suppress the vote in Ohio, Sen. Seitz introduced legislation that will make it more difficult if not impossible, and very expensive, for anyone to obtain an emergency extension for voting by a judge in the future.

Billy’s voter suppression legislation would force anyone would petitioned a judge to extend voting hours to post a cash bond to cover the cost of the extension of voting hours. Obviously, the costs could be in the tens of thousands of dollars. If a court were to later determine that there was no just cause for the polls to remain open, the voter would forfeit all of the money posted as a bond.

Billy’s herculean effort to forever cement his status as a Champion of Voter Rights cannot be challenged. After all if a 50 or 100,000 voters in Cleveland or Toledo are unable to vote because of an earthquake or typhoon and they can’t cough up $100,000 in cash, then they don’t deserve the right to vote according to Billy the Humanitarian.

Isn’t Ohio a great country?

Congrats Billy; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Humanitarians”; you are far too humble.
