Judge Dennis Maloney of Auburndale, FL; ethical gremlin

The State of Florida presented Dennis P. Maloney with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from the University of Florida Law School.

Dennis has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past 43 years (ca. 1977 to 2016). Apparently, no self respecting law firm in the Seminole County area was about to offer Denny a good paying job.

In one matter, Denny found it acceptable to use his judicial influence to improperly win the release of a friend’s son from jail after he was arrested for driving under the influence. (Lloyd Dunkelberger, The Ledger)

When his friend’s son was arrested, Dennis repeatedly called the jail order that the boy be released to his father. A police officer said he specifically told Ennis about the state law that required drunken drivers to be held for at least eight hours.

In a lame effort at levity, Dennis had the chutzpah to state that he was unaware at the time of the state law regarding holding drunk drivers in jail. Obviously, Dennis missed his calling as a Standup Comedian. In fact, if he’s that ignorant of Florida law, then he shouldn’t be sitting on the bench.

Apparently, Dennis is a firm believer in that old adage:

• “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme Court punished Dennis by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand. 

As we speak (ca. April 2016), Dennis continues to sit as a Seminole County judge in Auburndale, Florida.
