Judge Richard Sherwood of Albany, NY; thieving loser

The state of New York presented Richard James Sherwood with a law license in 1988 after he graduated from the Albany Law School.

As a Justice of the Peace, Dick is allowed to practice law on the side.

In one matter, Dick was recently (late February 2018) arrested and charged with stealing more than $4 million from the family trust of three sisters. Dick and 59-year-old Thomas Lagan were charged with grand larceny and scheme to defraud.

The DA said that Dick Tommy were business associates who devised a scheme to steal from trusts set up by local philanthropists Warren and Pauline Bruggeman. The DA’s office went on to say the thefts also targeted trusts for Pauline Bruggeman's two sisters

As a direct consequence of the criminal charges lodged against him, the New York Court of Appeals (highest court in New York) ordered that Dick be suspended from his judgeship until the criminal matter is concluded.

Despite being suspended from the bench, the local Greivance committee has taken no action against Dick’s law license, meaning there’s no prohibition against him practice law.

As we speak (ca. March 2018), Dick practices with Mazzotta Sherwood & Vagianelis PC at 9 Washington Square in Albany, New York.
