Judge Charles Nebel of Munising, MI; convicted drunk

The state of Michigan provided Charles C. Nebel with a law license in 1986.

The Judicial Tenure Commission found Charlie guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Charlie drank at least four sixteen ounce glasses of beer at the Mackinac Grill in St. Ignace, Michigan during a two-hour period of time. He then left the Grill to go to his home in Munising.

Subsequently, a Mackinac County Deputy registered Charlie’s speed at 105 miles per hour. Several witnesses reported that Charlie passed them at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

After being stopped by a Michigan State Police unit stopped Charlie acted in a confused and disoriented manner. An odor of booze emanated from his body and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Charlie admitted to the police that he sloshed down at least four or five sixteen ounce glasses of beer.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Charlie by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. March 2016), Charlie remains sitting as a Probate & Family Court judge (when sober) for Alger & Schoolcraft Counties in Munising, Michigan.
