Attorney W. Steve Smith of Houston; greedy loser

The state of Texas presented W. Steve Smith with a law license in 1971 after he graduated from the University of Texas Law School.

In one matter, Stevie was appointed as the bankruptcy trustee for the Chapter 7 filing by IFS Financial Corporation.

Subsequently, Stevie was removed as a Chapter 7 trustee by the Court for the Southern District of Texas after he was found to have sought improper travel reimbursements from the IFS bankruptcy estate.

Stevie’s improper travel reimbursements related to Stevie billing the IFS estate nearly $3,500 for his family’s four-night trip to New Orleans, which included his children.

In a lame attempt at levity, Stevie defended the family vacation charges by laughing claiming it was necessary “to prepare” for a hearing. Clearly, Stevie missed his calling as a Standup Comedian.

In ruling to remove Stevie for overbilling the estate for his family’s trip to New Orleans, the bankruptcy court said it also considered that Smith previously advocated for his own firm to represent him as trustee and appealed an order that benefitted his estate at the expense of his firm.

After his removal, Stevie had the chutzpah to appeal the removal order to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. That court upheld the lower court’s removal of Stevie as trustee.

As we speak (March 2016), Stevie practices with the Law Firm of Smith & Smith PC at 14425 Torrey Chase Blvd in Houston, Texas.
