Vernon, CA Administrator Mark Whitworth; apologist for greedy council members   Reporters Sam Allen and Abby Sewell of the LA Times wrote a story on Aug. 15, 2010 titled: “Council pay in Vernon, Inglewood and Compton is high, but Bell is still No. 1.” (http://tinyurl.com/23rhjmw)
The Times reported that council members in the industrial city of Vernon, which has fewer than 100 residents, earn $68,052 a year for a part-time job. They also receive reimbursements for claimed business expenses along with the city making annual contributions for pension benefits to the State.
 When The Times asked Mr. Mark Whitworth to comment on this outrageous largess being paid to part-time council members, Mr. Whitworth said, “They are the core leadership that oversees the city’s important work. Are they worth their money? Absolutely!” Is this guy a comedian or what?
 I suspect that council members, Hillario Gonzalez, W. Michael McCormick, Danny Newmire, Bill Davis and Dick Maisano Mr. Mark Whitworth likely pooled their money to provide Mr. Whitworth with a pair of industrial strength knee pads if ya know what I mean. Mark kinda gives a new meaning to being Southern California’s quintessential ass-kisser.
This motley crew of five council members is likely costing the taxpayers of Vernon in the neighborhood of $500,000 a year. The impressive credentials of this crew of greedy ingrates is as follows:
According to their resumes as posted on Vernon’s website, none of these fellers ever attended college. Now, I’m not suggesting that one needs a college degree to sit on the City Council in Vernon, LA, New York or Cleveland for that matter. However, to be fair to these guys, an unreliable source indicated that in the past they have attended games at USC, UCLA and/or Pepperdine, meaning at a minimum they’ve been in the vicinity of college or two, right? Goshes and Gollies, shouldn’t that count for something?
When one considers the raping of Bell City, California by the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Police Chief and City Council Members (aka, unrepentant thieves), the unconscionable conduct of the aforementioned “Jive Five” is equally disturbing.
Was public service ever intended to unjustly enrich our so-called servants? Sadly folks, that’s all it’s about anymore! And sadly it ain’t just happening in Vernon or Bell, California.
I suspect that in the not too distant future, taxpayers will be required to foot the bill to defray the costs of hookers in Reno (male or female), lap dances at the local Gentleman’s Club and/or for purchases of industrial strength Viagra for our esteemed public servants. Only seems fair and just, right Boyz and Girls?
