Judge Edward Elum of Massillon, OH; bully, repeat offender

The state of Ohio presented Edward Joseph Elum with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from Ohio Northern University Law School.

Disciplinary Counsel of the Ohio Supreme Court has charged Eddy with engaging in the following misconduct.

First and foremost, this isn’t Eddy’s First bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary stayed 6-month suspension from the bench. An article detailing said misconduct can be found by visiting the URL at the end of this article.

In one matter, Eddy called a landlord several times on behalf of a tenant who happed to be a family friend. The friend failed to pay his rent and was given notice to vacate the residence.

Eddy ordered the landlord to resolve the dispute in a way that would have been favorable to his friend. The landlord said he was “both surprised and intimidated” by the phone call “by his authoritative tone and by the fact that he was a judge.” (CantonRepository)

The ethics complaint states that the friend approached Eddy in the courthouse parking lot and spoke to him about his rent problems. The two then went to Eddy’s chambers and Eddy called the landlord. The landlord said he didn’t want to keep the man as a tenant because he was always late with rent payments and “was difficult to deal with and sometimes verbally abusive.”

Eddy then ordered the landlord to accept a late rent payment, and also ordered her to allow him to stay two extra days to remove his belongings. Eddy also directed the landlord to return $900, which was equal to two months rent as a refund of the security deposit despite the fact he had only paid $450 as a security deposit.

And finally, Eddy the Bully told the landlord if she did not agree to his friend’s terms, the tenant “would end up owning the entire property and she would never get him out.”

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Eddy this time by the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. December 2015), Eddy remains sitting as a Municipal Court judge in Massillon, Ohio.
