Judge George Huss of Jordan, MT; cheating harasser

The state of Montana presented George W. Huss with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from the University of Montana Law School.

In one matter, a former court reported filed a sexual harassment complaint against George with the Montana Human Rights Bureau. The lady was employed by the court for more than 23 years.

She accused George of making unwanted sexual advances towards her for more than a year. She stated she told George on numerous occasions she wasn’t interest and asked him to stop. Eventually she had to seek medical attention for the stress and anxiety caused by the harassment.

The complaint also claimed that George offered the woman gifts, sent her inappropriate emails, and publicly berated her for not returning his advances. In addition, George told her he loved her, and offered to cook her dinner when his wife was out of town.

George also offered to pay the woman $100 each month to help with mortgage payments, an offer of a life insurance policy naming her as beneficiary, gift cards, an automatic car starter and naming her a beneficiary of a personal bank account.

Court records reveal that George and his victim, with the assistance of a mediator, entered into an agreement saying that she is entitled to more than $744,000 in regards to her sexual harassment claims and that the State of Montana Office of the Court Administrator, which employs state court employees, is responsible for payment. However, the state is refusing to pay the $744,000 on behalf of George, which means he may well be personally liable for the settlement costs.

Rather than wait to be told he was being bounced from the bench, George took the cowards way out and announced he would resign his judgeship in January 2016.

As we speak (ca. December 2015), George remains sitting as a 16th District Court judge in Jordan, Montana.
