Attorney Jonathan McElroy of Asheville, NC; ethical gremlin

The state of North Carolina provided Jonathan S. McElroy with a law license in 1999 after she graduated from Loyola University Law School in New Orleans.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar has charged Jon with engaging in the following misconduct.

• Failed to perform monthly reconciliations of trust account
• Failed to accurately identify and track receipt of client funds
• Wired fees to himself from trust account without any records identifying client that fees were being charged too
• Commingled client and personal funds
• Failed to timely to complete final title opinions
• Failed to inform clients with real estate transactions that he was prohibited from handling entrusted funds
• Failed to appear at small claims hearing on behalf of client
• Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Jon!)

All that’s left now is to see what if any punishment the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court mete out to Jon.
