Attorney Douglas Schmidt of New Orleans; Dumbo, repeat offender

The state of Louisiana presented Douglas M. Schmidt with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Loyola University Law School in Chicago. The state of South Carolina also provided Doug with a law license in 1978.

The South Carolina Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Doug guilty of the following misconduct.

Doug’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 2007

  • Made false, misleading, deceptive or unfair communications about his services
  • Made communications that were like to create an unjustified expectation about results he could achieve
  • Improperly compared his services against those of other lawyers
  • Failed to disclose geographic location of office in advertisements
  • Improperly advertised he was an “expert” or “specialist” when in fact he wasn’t
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Doug!)

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Doug by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

Doug’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree - 2015

  • Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  • Failed to abide by client’s decisions re: objectives of representation
  • Failed to consult with clients as to means to be pursued on their behalf
  • Improperly made extrajudicial statements he knew would be publicly disseminated with the substantial likelihood it would materially prejudice adjudicative proceeding
  • Engaged in conduct tending to pollute administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct demonstrating unfitness to practice law

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Doug by gifting him with yet another complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (October 2015), Doug practices at 335 City Park Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana.
