Judge Wayne Purdom of Decatur, GA; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee

FYIJudge Roy Bean was an infamous Justice of the Peace and saloon owner in Texas who called himself the "The Law West of the Pecos." Roy was also affectionately referred to as the Hanging Judge.

The state of Georgia presented Wayne M. Purdom with a law license in 1977 after he graduated from Emory University Law School.

Judge Purdom holds the grandiose view that he has the absolute right to close his courtroom to anyone he pleases at any time he pleases. This arrogant view despite the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a Georgia case that judges do not have the authority to close their courtrooms except in very limited circumstances.

When the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) advised Purdom that he was violating the Code of Judicial Conduct in closing his courtroom, Purdom laughingly claimed that the JQC “had no authority” to determine how and when Georgia courtrooms should be open to the public. As Billy Joe would say, this is one arrogant som bitch!

The JQC specifically issued an opinion which directs judges not to exclude anyone, including minors from court. The opinion went on to state that court personnel may not require members of the public to state why they want entry to the courtroom or to exclude the public from any court proceedings.

Apparently, Wayne, the Judge Roy Bean Wannabee believes that nobody and that would include the United States Supreme Court can tell him how to conduct himself. Seemingly, Wayne attended the Chief Justice Roy Moore Institute on Judicial Arrogance located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Maybe it would be wise for Wayne to apply for a judgeship in a more democratic venue such as North Korea or Albania. I’m sure he’d be treated with the disrespect he so richly deserves.

As we speak (ca. July 2015), the Surpeme Court of Georgia has not yet ruled on Greg’s specious demand that it overrule the Judicial Commission and allow him to continue to close the people’s courtroom to members of the public.
