Attorney Douglas Keshen of Ontario, CAN; thieving loser

 

The Law Society of Upper Canada presented Doug Jack Keshen with a law license in 1978.

 

The Disciplinary Board of the Law Society of Upper Canada has charged Doug with the following misconduct .

  • Improperly loaned money to at least 28 clients
  • Mishandled compensation claims of at least 12 residential school survivors
  • Money went missing form several the accounts of several survivors
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to communicate with clients
  • Failed to personally attend two hearings regarding survivors
  • Failed to deliver statements of account to clients
  • Improperly arranged high interest loans from Alberta company Settlement Lenders involving at least nine clients
  • Breached legal duties by delegating tasks and function to his employees
  • Over seven (7) year period of time repeatedly paid himself prior to giving his clients their bills
  • Failed to pay 17 clients their full compensation within a reasonable time of his receipt of same
  • Transferred $45,000 of client trust funds to his general account without any legal entitlement to any of the monies
  • Charged clients legal fees not related to their compensation claims (crook)
  • Illegally charged at least two clients $7,520 each for attorney fees that he absolutely knew did not relate to his representation of said clients (thief)
  • Prepared a Power of Attorney for a vulnerable client w/o ensure that the client was capable of understanding it
  • Transferred $119,300 from a client’s settlement funds to himself and/or other lawyers pursuant to the POA he prated for a vulnerable client

The compensation alluded to above is part of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement and Agreement (IRSSA) the Independent Assessment Process (IAP). The IAP is charged with paying survivors who were seriously abused, physically or sexually, by staff or other students at the government-funded, church-run schools.

 

Keshen is but one of at least thirteen lawyers who dealt with survivors across Canada that are being investigated by government officials. Keshen is also being investigated by criminal investigators and may well face charges in the future.
