Judge Skeet Jones of Mentone, TX; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee

FYI: Judge Roy Bean was an infamous Justice of the Peace and saloon owner in Texas who called himself the "The Law West of the Pecos." Roy was also affectionately referred to as the Hanging Judge.

The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct found Skeet guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to comply with the law
  • Failed to maintain competence in the law (idiot)
  • Imposed illegal parking offense fines

Under Texas Law maximum fine for Illegal Parking is $200. Examples of Skeet’s illegal parking fines are as follows:

  • Fined defendant Miguel Marquez $750
  • Fined defendant Martin $600
  • Fined defendant Douglas Gordon $750
  • Fined defendant Villa Gomez $750
  • Fined defendant Louis Meraz-Dominguez $750

In addition,Skeet dismissed the following criminal charges and then illegally charged the defendants with “Illegal Parking.”

  • Dismissed assault charge per DA; then charges defendant with illegal parking
  • Dismissed marijuana charge per DA; then charges defendant with illegal parking

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Judge Skeet by gifting him with a complimentary public warning.

As we speak (ca. April 2016) Skeet continues to sit as a County Judge in Mentone, Loving County, Texas.
