The state of North Carolina provided James W. Thompson III with a law license in 1973 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Jimmy guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to maintain proper client ledger
• Misapplied $117,000 of client funds
• Failed to promptly remedy deficit in real estate trust account
• Failed to safeguard entrusted funds
• Failed to deliver or pay funds owed to client
• Failed to perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations of trust account

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 3-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Jimmy.
