Judge James Scales III of Bridge City, TX; Judge Roy Bean  Wannabee

The State Commission on Judicial is investigating the following misconduct of Judge Scales in regards to an ethics complaint filed by Ms. Ashley Ridding. (Rebecca Trejo)

In one matter, Jimmy called Ms. Riddling and left the following voicemail:

  • “Yeah, this is Judge Jimmy Scales, City of Bridge City, looking for Ashley Riddling.”
  • “I you to call me back ... seems like you're running your mouth on something that you shouldn't be … Be sure and call me back now.”
  • “I don’t want to send somebody after you.”

The call to Ms. Riddling came about as the result of a traffic ticket. Ms. Riddling denied that she passed a school bus, so she wanted to fight the ticket by going to trial. However, when Jimmy refused to change her trial date, she told her friends, some of whom were police officers what happened, and stated she told them she was surprised by Jimmy’s response. She went on to tell the officers and friends:

  • “I took it as a threat”
  • “I was very emotional and called my husband very upset about it.”
  • “To actually threaten to come and get me, remove me from me from my home, it didn’t sit right with me and I couldn’t let it go.”

Ms. Riddling’s attorney, former judge Langston Adams said:

  • “This is America.
  • “We do have a right of free speech and I was just absolutely amazed to hear that voice message.”

All that’s left now is to see what punishment, if any the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Texas Surpeme Court mete out to Jimmy. I suspect the worst that will happen is that he will receive a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. April 2015), Jimmy continues to sit as a Bridge City Municipal Court judge in Bridge City, Texas, which is about 25 miles east of Beaumont.
