Judge Fred Soelen of Clovis, NM; ethical dwarf  

The state of New Mexico presented Fred Travis Soelen with a law license in 2000 after he graduated from St. Mary’s University Law School in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2013, Gov. Susana Martinez was duped into appointing Freddy as a Ninth Judicial District Court judge in Clovis. Freddy didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Clovis area. He received it because he had proven to be reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

Judge Soelen was recently (March 2015) accused of making offensive jokes about a racism scandal while on the job. The public defender’s office wants him off the bench. (KRQR 13 NEWS)

Freddy apparently found it funny to make offensive jokes while he was on the bench in early March in response to an earlier racist video showing members of the SAE fraternity at the University of Oklahoma singing a racist chant.

An assistant public defender said he overheard Freddy joking about the chant with prosecutors after the conclusion of a courtroom hearing. The public defender stated that Freddy said:

“The frat just should have been smarter than to allow a chant to be videotaped.”

“It would have been funnier 30 years ago.”

As one would suspect, Freddy denies he made said statements and goes on to basically claim that he’s not a racist.

I suppose the next statement from Freddy will be something like: “I’m not a racist. I have a friend that’s black.”

We will have to wait and see if the Judicial Commission takes any action against Freddy. However, even if it does, at worst he’ll receive a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2015), Freddy continues to sit as a 9^thJuridical District Court judge in Clovis, New Mexico.
