Today’s “Humanitarian” Award Winner

Price is a physician by trade, who practices in the field of orthopedic surgery. In November 2005, Tommy duped the voters in the northern suburbs of Atlanta to elect him as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In early 2015, Speaker of the House John Boehner appointed Tommy to be Chairman of the House Budget Committee.

On March 17, 2015, Tommy and his fellow republicans put forth a so-called budget. In his budget proposal, Tommy called for freezing the maximum Pell Grant award for the next ten years at $5,775 per year.

The average cost of tuition at a 4-year college for 2012/2013 is in excess of $22,000. The average ten years earlier (2002) was just north of $7,000 per year. (statisticbrain.com) In other words, the cost of tuition went up over 300% over ten years.

Even if the cost of college only increased half as much as it did from 2002 to 2012, the cost would be somewhere north of $55,000 per year.

If Tommy and those of his ilk were truly concerned with reducing the national debt, then why doesn’t he propose a 10-year-freeze on subsidies paid to farmers and the oil industry?

Tommy well knows that his well-heeled friends do not need to apply for a Pell Grant. In fact, the vast majority of Pell Grants are awarded to children of low and/or middle income families, folks that Tommy isn’t concerned about.

Congrats Tommy; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Humanitarians”; you are far too humble.
