Judge Gregory Popovich of Newport, KY; moronic loser

The State of Kentucky presented Joseph James O’Neil with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from the Samuel P. Chase Law School.

Judge Popovich has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the last twenty-three years (ca. 1993 to 2015). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Newport area was willing to offer Greg a good paying job over the past 23 years.

The Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission has charged Judge Popovich with the following misconduct.

During a perfunctory hearing to suppress evidence involving a traffic stop, Judge Popovich decided to accuse the Assistant County Attorney, who wasn’t even the assigned prosecutor to the case of improperly providing assistance to defense counsel. Popovich made these accusations without first issuing a ruling on the pending suppression motion.

During the hearing, Popovich stated that the basis for his accusations was based in part, on improper ex parte (one-sided) statements made to him by attorneys that weren’t involved in the case. The statements made to Popovich took place at a social gathering outside the courthouse.

When defense counsel adamantly denied the truth of his accusations, Popovich went off on him by calling him a liar and did so in the presence of his client.

In another matter, Popovich made derogatory statements about another Assistant County Attorney, accusing him of intentionally failed to file two appellate briefs, and stating that he never practiced law and only works on computers. It should be noted that the target of Popovich’s false accusations just happened to be his opponent in the November general election.

And lastly, Popovich refused to rule on a pending motion to suppress and ordered the County Attorney to provide correspondence explaining what authority the Chief Assistant County Attorney held over other prosecutor’s in his office.

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Popovich in regards to the aforementioned misconduct.

As we speak (ca. March 2015), Gregory remains sitting as a 17thJudicial District Court Judge in Newport, Kentucky.
