Judge Brian Umphress of Jacksboro, TX; homophobic bigot

Brian has continued to refuse to perform same sex marriages while at the same time cheerfully marrying heterosexual couples. He laughingly asserts that his so-called religious beliefs command that he be allowed to discriminate against members of the gay community.

In a lame effort at levity, Brian has filed a sham lawsuit against the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct to prevent it from discipling him in accordance with its punishment of fellow homophobe and bigot Judge Dianne Hensley who also refused to perform same sex marriages.

In his frivolous lawsuit, Brian the Bigot said:

  • He [Brian] “is engaged in numerous extra-judicial activities that evince disapproval of homosexual behavior, same-sex marriage, and the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell, and all of these activities are exposing him to discipline under the commission’s current interpretation.”
  • His church teaches that “homosexual conduct of any sort is immoral” and violates scripture.”

Brian is asking the federal court in Fort Worth to declare in a judgment that the First Amendment protects his right to go to his church that disapproves of homosexuality, keep up his practice of refusing to officiate same-sex weddings and allow him to speak out against same-sex marriages during his campaign for reelection.

He is also asking the federal court to issue a permanent injunction that would stop the judicial conduct commission from investigating or disciplining judges based on disapproval of same-sex marriage or homosexual conduct. He wants the court to find that his religious rights would stop such a sanction.

In Brian’s Bigoted mind, he can choose which U.S. Supreme Court decisions he will or will not follow, which is pure bunk because his oath of office doesn’t afford him the right to thumb his note at the court’s rulings.

For Brian and his fellow Homophobic Bigots to suggest that they are doing Jesus’ bidding by discriminating against members of the gay community doesn’t pass the involuntary laugh test.

What’s next for Brian and his fellow comrades? Will they claim a religious right to discriminate against African Americans, Asians, Latinos or Muslims because they are of the belief that Jesus only liked Honkies?

And lastly, since Brian refuses to uphold his oath and perform same-sex weddings, then maybe he should seek another line of work. He may well want to consider applying for a job as a greeter at the Walmart Supercenter located at 2121 State Highway 16 South in Graham, Texas.

As we speak (ca. June 2020), Brian the Bigot continues to sit as a Jack County Justice of the Peace in Jacksboro, Texas.
