Attorney Maria Avinante of Honolulu; lying loser
The state of Hawaii presented Maria Corazon Avinante with a law license in 1978 after she graduated from California Western School of Law.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Maria guilty of the following misconduct.
-
Commingled client funds with personal funds
-
Breached her fiduciary duties to her client (victim)
-
Failed to deposit client funds in separate client trust account
-
Misconduct involved multiple violations
-
Failed to submit motion for publication of divorce for seven (7) months
-
Misappropriated (stole) portion of funds owing to client
-
Failed to promptly provide client with accounting of client funds
-
Lied in bar registration materials for two consecutive years that she was in compliance with rules governing the handling of client funds
Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
As a consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on Disciplinary Counsel punished Maria by gifting her with a complimentary 120-day suspension of her law license.
As we speak (ca. February 2015), Maria practices with The Law Office of M. Cora Avinante at 550 Halekauwila Street in Honolulu, Hawaii.
